Community Service inf 2011

Thanks for all your work this year to give back to the community through our love of quilting. Childeren and adults served by Brigid Collins Family Support Center, Peace Health Infusion Services, Hospice House, and the Opportunity Council have all benefitted by the generosity of your time, talent and materials. Doll quilts were also made and donated to low income child care centers.

Guild members Kim, Jana, Jo and Juline work as a team on scrappy blocks for quilt tops.

Michele created this quilt top for the newly opened Hospice House.

Community Service Projects from previous years:

Community Service in 2010This year our guild is busy making quilts for our local infusion center. In August a group of volunteers took fabric donations and completed seven more quilts for our designated organizations. These were shown at the September guild meeting. More quilts are in process and volunteers may contact Nikki if they are able to help!

In March Nikki led the group in a sewing session and many Nine Patch blocks were completed. These scrappy blocks will be joined to make many cheery quilts for patients undergoing treatments.

In addition, fleece hats were made and donated to both the infusion center and the Salt on the Street program.

Florence D. shared some of the Scrappy Nine Patch quilts that are being completed and ready to deliver to the infusion center.

Each year Moonlight Quilters gives back to the community through their love of quilting.

  • In 2009 a large quilt was made and raffled to benefit the "FACES" program and helped to support an eight week summer camp for autistic children.
  • In 2008 many "string" quilts were made for children in crisis through the Brigid Collins Family Support Center. We also made origami crane blocks for a wonderful quilt to be raffled in 2009 as a benefit for the CAST Feeding Program.
  • In 2007 a wonderful quilt was made for the benefit of Blue Skies for Children, a local oraganization helping school-age children.
  • In 2006 a queen sized quilt was made for SISU.
  • In 2005 six bed sized log cabin quilts were donated to the Red Cross emergency relief. Several table runners were donated to SISU for their fundraising auction and 5 lap quilts were completed for Bonnie's Team to be given to patients at the infusion center.
  • In 2004 a beautiful Boston Commons quilt was donated to Faith Lutheran Church, where we hold our monthly meetings. Lap quilts were constructed using kits of donated fabric.
  • In 2003 quilts were donated to many local agencies and organizations
  • In 2002 members displayed quilts in the Infusion Center at St. Joseph's Hospital to cheer patients and staff. This rotating quilt display was enjoyed by all.
  • Guild members continue to donate time, fabric and orphan blocks which are stitched into lap sized quilts. These quilts are donated in the guild's name to Bonnie's Team in memory of Bonnie De Spain, a local quilter who was lost to breast cancer in 2000. The finished quilts are given to cancer patients being treated through the Infusion Center.
