2004 Quilt Challenge

 HOME

MQGlogo

Every entrant will receive a small prize for participating as well as being entered into a drawing for a fully paid ticket to the October MQG Quilt Retreat, so generously donated by our president, Tara Foulds.  This year, the committee feels it has chosen a theme that can be tackled by all, from beginner to experienced. We have also added some new twists.

The voting will be done by only those present at the August 9th meeting. We will be awarding 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th place awards in cash prizes of $40, $30, $20, & $10 respectively.

We hope that you will get as excited as we are for this great challenge!!

The Challenge Committee
We realize that not all have the time or inclination to do a challenge quilt, so we are asking those who do not enter a quilt, but would like to participate in some small way, to donate a fat quarter that will be used as prizes for all who enter.
The fabrics shown here are examples of fabrics that could be used--but not in the same quilt. They are tone on tone with only one color used.

THE RULES

1. All the following rules must be adhered to, or your quilt will be disqualified from the voting.
2. It is due upon arrival at the August 2004 meeting in a Haggen paper grocery bag.
3. It must be completed including quilting (no tying), binding and label.
4. Label must be covered for anonymity.
5. It must be completely constructed by only
one member (that's you!!).
6. The pattern used need not be original (but can be if you so choose).
7. The measured perimeter (outside measurement) must not be any smaller that 120" around and no larger than 200" around. (If they were square that is 30x30 up to 50x50.) They can be any shape as long as they stay within those parameters.
8. You may use any technique you like by hand or machine.
9. Embellishments can be used (beads, yarns, buttons, charms, etc), but must abide by the following two color rules.
10.
Only two colors can be used.
11.
Color #1:

  1. Choose any color you like
  2. Use as many different fabrics as you like
  3. Use as many different values of that same color as you like
  4. Fabric must be solid or tone on tone of that color (for instance, if you choose blue, you must only have blue or any tone of blue in the fabric print such as navy blue through to pale baby blue; no other colors such as prints that have black outlines, or white outlines, or any other colored outline or motif)

12. Color #2:

  1. Choose any color you like that contrasts with color #1
  2. Use only one fabric with only one color
  3. It can be solid or tone on tone
  4. If tone on tone, it can be high contrast or low contrast, but must not have another color in it (see above)

13. This is the most important rule of all: CHALLENGE YOURSELF and HAVE FUN!!!!!!

The fabrics shown here are examples of fabrics that you must not choose for this challenge. They all contain more than one color.
