Moonlight Quilters |

Frances D., Chair This year the Super Quilt Sundays were held at Fourth Corner Quilts in Bellingham. |
The results were fabulous! Monday, Nov. 14th Moonlight Quilters Guild presented 6 queen size quilts to our local Red Cross Director for Emergency Services. Laura Field was very please to accept these lovely quilts and thanked us on behalf of the families who will be receiving them, probably within the next 6 months. When disasters, such as fire and flood, take a family's home and posessions, the Red Cross is there to support them. This year our quilts will provide warmth and hope to six families in crisis. Click on the image below to see all six quilts! Sunday, October 2nd marked the last Super Quilt Sunday for 2005. Thanks to Nikki Crisp and Jo Baner three more queen size quilts for the Red Cross and one lap quilt for Bonnie's Team were quilted on the long arms. Linda Beck set the remaining set of log cabin blocks into the Barn Raising pattern and Sally Strawn prepared backs for quilts. The Committee plans to present all six queen size log cabin quilts to a representative of the Whatcom Chapter of the Red Cross at the November guild meeting. Super Quilt Sunday on May 15 was a success! Four table runners went on auction at the June 9th fund raiser at the Mt. Baker Theatre for the SISU Children's Fund. The blocks for queen size log cabin bed quilts for the Red Cross are almost finished. At 36 blocks each that's a lot of sewing, pressing, and squaring up! Five lap quilts for Bonnie's Team were quilted on the long arm and await binding. Watch for a display of pictures at the next guild meeting of the activity from May 15th. Our Committee Chairperson and many guild members started out the year with a Quilt-A-Thon on Super Bowl Sunday. Kits of donated fabric were put together and the sewers were able to complete over a 22 quilt tops, 10 of which were quilted on the longarm machine. Many have been bound and donated. 8 went for Bonnie's Team and will be given to patients having chemo therapy at the infusion center at Madrona Medical Clinic. This year our major recipients will be the Red Cross and the SISU Children's Fund. Bed sized quilts will be given to the Red Cross which gives aid to many families who loose everything in house fires. These quilts will stay in our local Whatcom County Community. Sewers will also make table runners for the SISU Auction in June. The following photos were taken at our March guild meeting. Members brought strips of fabric and everyone pitched in to sort, stitch, press, and cut. Work was begun on 5 Log Cabin quilts to be donated to the Red Cross. It was organized and energetic! |
