It's A Mystery! A Mystery Scrappy Table Topper!
2008 Vice Presiden's for Projects Donna C. & Nat. H.

Have fun with this one!

This Table Topper focuses on using your scraps from left-overs, fat quarters, 2 ½ in strips, collections or maybe one of those darling Jelly Rolls that you 'just had to have' but haven't used yet!

BATTING: 30-33 inch square (An insulated batting makes a nice heat-protective pad).

BACKING: 7/8 yard (or more if optional outer border is desired)

BINDING: about 120 running inches of 2 ½ in wide strips (I use jelly rolls scraps)

For a 28" X 28" Table Topper You'll Need:

BACKGROUND FABRICS: About ¾ yard total of 5 to 10 or more fabrics, including various Off-whites, very pale tones, or small prints that read very light:

MEDIUM FABRICS: About ¼ yard of 3-5 or more fabrics of the similar color, including various solids, tone on tones, or prints of medium tones. For example: different shades of medium pinks. The mediums should have contract from background and dark fabrics.

DARK FABRICS: About ¼ yard of 3-5 or more fabrics of the similar color, including various solids, tone on tones, or prints reading darker tones. For example: different shades of dark pinks. The darks should have contract from background and medium fabrics.

IN ADDITION: 6 sheets of 2" finished Thangles for constructing 1/2 square triangles, OR piece using your favorite method.

WANT IT BIGGER? Add 5/8 yd. for outer borders and add larger pieces of backing & batting.

UFO CHALLENGE

To give Moonlighters an extra incentive to complete quilts and enter them in the quilt show, Projects is issuing a 2008 UFO Challenge. Register your UFO’s, and then finish them to receive entries for a special drawing to be held in December.

  • Make a list of your UFO’s (Un Finished Objects {quilts or quilt type projects that have been started, and then for some reason had to have work on them stopped, so they just sat}).
    • On your list give each UFO a description or name (please make sure to give enough information to identify finished quilt from your list)
    • approximate date UFO was started
    • stage UFO is in now (quilt top done; blocks are finished; pieces are cut; fabric bought with pattern & recipient planned; etc.)
    • size you intend UFO to be (dimension in inches; or wall hanging, throw, bed {size – crib, twin, queen, etc.} quilt)
    • You may include any other information you wish (who it’s for, or why you started it, or even why it sat unfinished).
  • Bring your list to the projects VPs – Donna C. or Nat H. to register your UFO’s
  • When you finish a UFO, you must bring it to a guild meeting to share, or bring a picture of the completed quilt to the Projects VPs for inclusion in the drawing.
  • Every completed UFO gives you another chance in the drawing. The number of participants and number of completed UFOs will determine the number of prizes available.

All UFO’s must be pre-registered, and must have been started in 2007 or earlier to be eligible.

Join other members and bring your finished Chicken to the March guild meeting. That is if you can get it away from your husband or your kids! Contact Linda P. for directions!

A small flock of chickies made their way to the March meeting. Many of their friends were unable to attend, but we have heard they are happily settled in sewing rooms around Whatcom County.
Block of the Month A Dog and Cat quilt will begin in March. Two patterns for 12" blocks were passed out to members.
