The rules of play . . .

This year’s Row Robin is being adjusted to meet the needs of us ‘slower’ sewers with rows due only every other month. This will be a smaller wall hanging or sofa quilt when finished. If more than five quilters want to participate we will have two groups.

February your starting row is due. Make it 36-40 inches wide, your choice. Bring it in a sturdy (labeled) transport bag/container with the starting row safety pinned onto a flannel or muslin backing. In the bag/container also put your information sheet and a bit of extra fabric for the other participants to use in their rows if desired.

After that the rows will be due every other month (April, June, August, October). We will show the rows at the ‘even-month’ meetings as we go through the year. We will show the finished tops (or the finished quilt!) in December. We will each end up with a five row wall hanging 36-40 inches wide (plus a border if desired) and whatever length you wish, adding more rows as desired.

Each participant will also donate a bit of extra fabric used in the making of their row(s) for the other participants to use as needed. These fabrics may be used along with additional fabric from the participant’s stash and will help the rows “go” together.

The rules are:

  • Use good quality fabric
  • Keep the quilts clean and free of pet hair and smoke, etc
  • Be committed to stay on schedule, making arrangements if you cannot attend the ‘even’ month meetings for another member to drop off and pick up your rows
  • Do not sew the rows together, just safety pin them onto the flannel/muslin – this allows the recipient to arrange the rows as s/he desires, using sashing, adding or rearranging rows and so forth
  • The rows should equal the first row in width, but can be of varying lengths
  • Safety pin a label with your name onto each of your rows
  • Have fun!
