No Loose Ends

Here are tips for those loose threads!

Avoid threads to trim and loose seams!
I use a double-folded scrap of fabric at the beginning of each 1/4" seam to start my seam: it serves as an anchor to secure the thread ends, to easily slip my piece under the pressure foot and then sew onto it with snug stitches. At the end of my seam or chain I stitch onto another scrap, which I leave under my pressure foot for my next seam!

Minimize those raveling seams!
Starch can minimze those fly-away threads when making a quilt-top, and a starched piece makes it easier to match seams and get accurate 1/4" seams.

Fabric that I pre-wash can be starched to give back it's sizing. I like to soak it in a mixture of laundry starch/water for a stiff or "heavy starch," then use a spin cycle to extract the excess, and dry to slightly damp.

When ironing fabic use a pressing motion and avoid sliding the iron across fabric (it can distort fabric).

Don't like to pre-wash?...Use aerosol spray starch or a heavy mixture of laundry starch & water in a spray bottle before cutting fabric.
