Moonlight Quilters
Tree Quilt

Home

Our 2009 Tree Quilt is well on its way. We have nearly all the blocks required for our new quilt. The remaining blocks must be turned in by the May meeting. Our committee will meet on June 6 at Fourth Corner Quilts to put the top together.

6" Maple Leaf Blocks

The city of Bellingham has displayed a tree quilt produced by Moonlight Quilters for the last several years. Public response has been tremendous. We will be raffling this quilt in 2009 and making a new quilt for the city to display during 2009 and 2010, to be raffled in 2011. The new tree quilt will be made of maple leaf blocks on a Kona black background.

Our 2006 Tree Quilt will be raffled in 2009!

2006 Tree Quilt - Displayed at City Hall in Bellingham!

In mid May Moonlight quilters guild was offered the opportunity to make a king size quilt, in a design of our choosing, to hang at City Hall for the month of October.  The quilt would be featured in the first of many Urban Forestry celebrations.  With only three and a half months to get the quilt completed we decided to go for it and have it completed for our bi-annual quilt show.

With the help of many members 20 individual tree blocks were made, the center medallion was designed and the top was completed.  With only two and a half weeks to the quilt show and four days before our September meeting we took the quilt and the backing to Jo Baner, another Moonlight Quilter, to be quilted.  Jo is a professional quilter that provides custom quilting on her long arm machine.  She very generously donated the quilting and the thread for this magnificent quilt.

To my surprise in four days I had the quilted tree quilt in my hands to
reveal to the guild at our September meeting.  How exciting!  The quilt was proudly displayed at our quilt show, "A Cornucopia of Quilts" on September 29th and 30th.

Suzanne G. & Donna C. hold the nearly completed quilt at the Sept. Guild Meeting.

During the month of October the quilt was hung at the Bellingham City Hall Building on Lottie St.  The Moonlight Quilters were proud to invite everyone to go and see this work of art that has been created by our members.

After the month of October this quilt wasl returned to Moonlight Quilters. Since the foundation of our guild is Education and Community Service we have decided that we will be selling or raffling this quilt in the coming year.  The proceeds from this quilt will go to fund a special speaker for our guild and others in the community as well as continue to fund our community service projects for the following year.
